Darkness to Light embraces a “social behavior change” framework, empowering adults to work within their spheres of influence – youth-serving organizations, the community, the family, political power – to prevent abuse. Stewards of Children introduces clear abuse definitions and statistics, integrates the testimony of abuse survivors, and identifies the physical, behavioral, and emotional signs that are frequently linked to abuse. Importantly, its curriculum is trauma-informed.

The training empowers adults to be conscious of the widespread nature of abuse, responsibly intervene and set a boundary when they observe suspicious behavior, and report suspected or known abuse. The curriculum is a helpful “first step” in understanding why safeguarding action is fundamental.
